Open Letter

Dear Charles Bukowski,

Your poem "Dinosauria, We," really caught my attention. The way you overused and emphasized the word "this" really made me think and wonder what you were referring to. After reading it a couple of times I got a sense of you trying to reach out to people and make them aware that our actions as human beings will affect our future. If we don't watch our actions they will lead us into a dark and desolate world as you mentioned in your poem. In my opinion I agree with this message. Essentially the world is what we make of it.

Also, I found out that you wrote this poem forty years ago and it shows that you were capable of predicting what the future held. Its crazy that what you said is partially true in today's society such as that hospitals and lawyers are pretty expensive and that pollution has caused this world to be a dystopian society. It's scary to think that the world will come to an end as you discuss the various things that die, "trees will die, vegetation will die". There have been multiple of times where people have said that the world is going to end. Maybe..just maybe people can actually do something about it. In the last few sentences of your poem you mention "And there will be the most beautiful silence never heard." This means that everything for that moment will be at peace which makes it so beautiful. Considering this, humans can try and make peace with one another by having world peace.

Your poem was interesting and eye opening. It really helped me realize that our world is really bad and that people take things for granted. If people don't change their lifestyle now then this world could end up just as you predicted. It's not too late to save the world, but if people don't react now then maybe it will be. Who knows.

  1. It is a scary thought, but I think living that future while knowing we could have possibly prevented it is even scarier.
